f700 on verizon will be the gphone [prediction]

October 31, 2007 · 2 Comments

now that word is spreading about the big G and VZW talking all friendly-like and also rumors of the samsung f700 coming to big red pre-holiday (seems unlikely at best), i’m going to take a wild leap and go ahead and predict that the f700 will launch as the much-rumored gphone on “the network.” i know wsj is saying the gphone won’t be out until mid-2008, but who are they to make unfounded predictions (that’s my department all of a sudden). i would be first in line to pick this one up if it had what looks to be a powerhouse of apps from one of my favorite email/rss reader/search/calendar companies along with that sweet, sweet, touchscreen. i’m no industry insider – heck – i’m so far outside the industry that i couldn’t get an exclusive if i was the only person using a cellphone, but i’m confident in my skills of deduction that this will come true.

so, take this with a beach full of grains of salt, but quote me as the first to announce it if it comes true – the f700 is the new gphone.

UPDATE: apparently, the phone is now called the sch-u940

a fresh little review

October 24, 2007 · Leave a Comment

my coworkers and i took a trip to Fresh for lunch last week. i’d heard about it several times and read reviews before, walked by it several times, but never stopped in to eat before. first, i will say that they have a lot more offerings than i anticipated. they have hot and cold sandwiches, salads and soups. your meal comes with choice of chips, pretzels, or an apple – which is a bit like panera (another restaurant which would do well downtown).

after weighing all the delicious sounding sandwiches and such, i opted for the southwest chicken cheddar melt with tomatoes, peppers and mayo. it was a really good sandwich, not too big, not too small – probably the size of sandwich you should actually have for lunch. i was quite happy with the sandwich and i think you would be too.

i definitely plan to go back to try one of the half soup/half salad/half sandwich choices as their salads sound really tasty. i think the tandoori chicken sandwich will be in my near future as well. i recommend you check it out if you work/live/play downtown and want something to eat which you can feel good about.

geek mafia: mile zero is released!

October 24, 2007 · Leave a Comment

you may recall that i once mentioned geek mafia by rick dakan. it was a superb book and one of my favorites. it combined being a geek and a criminal – and not just the type that downloads things from the depths of the intarwebs.

now, the follow-up/sequel type book – g33k mafia: mile zero is out and, well, not exactly on shelves, but you can buy it. i can’t wait to get my hands on it and see what he’s come up with this time. i’ll let you know what i think as soon as i read it.
